A lot of resources go into growing plants that feed us and therefore, we should use as much as possible what was given by nature. There are 9 million tonnes of primary production waste generated in the EU and it is a huge amount of possibilities.
HOW SKINCARE INGREDIENTS CAN BE ZERO-WASTE?
Upcycled ingredients mean that waste from agricultural, food, and juice industries can be eliminated by extracting unwanted elements from the manufacturing process to become by-products and raw materials in their own right.Â
By-products include seeds, leaves, peels, and stones and are usually discarded but these derivatives and food waste contains key bioactive compounds including high levels of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins that are significant in skincare.Â
There are different versions of manufacturing that makes an upcycled ingredient zero-waste and we try hard to choose those more sustainable options in our formulations.Â
UPCYCLED BY-PRODUCTS
This means taking a by-product from a different manufacturing process and using it to create a new ingredient. This results in using 100% of raw material.Â
ZERO-WASTE TO LANDFILL
Waste from materials that were grown specifically for oil production is managed to use as a natural fertilizer.
UPCYCLED COLD PROCESS OILS
They are created by using unwanted seeds, nuts, and pulp from the food and juice industries.
